Autumn/Winter Exhibition at the Musée GRATALOUP: An Immersion into the Symbolic World of the Mountain

From November 16, 2024, to April 20, 2025, the Musée GRATALOUP invites you to a new immersion into the work of the painter GRATALOUP (1935-2022) through the exhibition "I Dreamed of the Mountain." For this sixth autumn/winter season, the artist unveils a series of paintings inspired by the majesty of mountains, where nature becomes a profound metaphor for the human condition and its inner quest.

The mountain, a symbol of introspection

GRATALOUP grew up surrounded by the mountains of Nantua, a natural setting that left a lasting impression on him from childhood and nourished his artistic imagination throughout his life. For him, the mountain is not just a mere landscape but an allegory of spiritual ascent and personal challenges. His works capture the grandeur and mystique of the mountains, embodying both stability and transformation.

This exhibition brings together around fifteen paintings, each offering a unique perspective on the intimate connection between humanity and the mountain. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in this symbolic universe and embark on an introspective journey, where the contemplation of the peaks painted by GRATALOUP inspires reflections on self-discovery and the quest for meaning.

An Immersive Experience

This autumn/winter exhibition at the Musée GRATALOUP, "I Dreamed of the Mountain," is not limited to the simple observation of artworks; it offers a true inner journey. For this new exhibition, as with the previous ones, the museum provides an immersive scenography, incorporating podcasts, videos, and a light and sound show specially designed for the occasion. These elements enrich the experience by plunging visitors into the symbolic universe of the mountain. Each painting, with its captivating palette of colors and forms, creates a dialogue with the viewer, inviting them to explore their own aspirations and challenges. Through this exhibition, the museum highlights GRATALOUP's unique ability to transform landscapes into symbols of the human condition.

A Dialogue Between Two Artists

In parallel with the works of GRATALOUP, the museum's garden showcases some creations by the sculptor and painter Antoinette ROZAN, continuing the reflection initiated during the previous exhibition, "Corps Vivant."

These works enrich the experience and extend the dialogue between humanity and nature, two central themes in the works of both GRATALOUP and Antoinette ROZAN.

The Musée GRATALOUP also features the work of artist Antoinette ROZAN in the museum's garden.
