The Mountain is a major theme in Grataloup's work. He spent the first years of his life in Nantua, in an exceptional natural setting, surrounded by mountains overlooking the lake. These landscapes deeply influenced him from an early age and have nourished his entire artistic creation. Through his colors, he seeks to capture their mystical and symbolic essence. More than just a landscape, the mountain represents a mirror of human experiences and an allegory of inner transformation.
The exhibition "I Dreamed the Mountain" features around fifteen carefully selected paintings that resonate with this theme. These works, where the mountain appears sometimes imposing, sometimes enveloping, invite reflection on the human condition and the personal transformations each of us goes through in life.
A Symbolist Painter
The colors, geometric shapes, and layers of texture are never random.
Each element is a symbolic representation filled with multiple meanings, which the visitor can interpret according to their own emotions and reflections.
It is not just about viewing the artworks, but about immersing oneself in them and feeling the energy and emotion they convey. Perhaps then, in a humble way, Grataloup's perception of the mountain will enrich our understanding of the challenges and transformations of our own existence.
Exhibition Trailer
Since I was very young, I've dreamed of the mountain. I've played in its light and hidden in its shadows. I've tasted the herbs along its paths. I've inhaled the scents of stones and rocks. I've listened to the stories the wind tells in the peaks, and I've touched the sky at the top of the world. I got a bit lost in its infinite greatness. Then one day, I took up my colors and dared to paint its splendor.
The exhibition is bilingual in French and English.
